Perhaps you’re even interested in taking your setup beyond guitar-only territory and syncing a virtual drum machine up to your looper, and having a play with some software synthesizers while you’re at it. Or you want to store a number of “presets” for different songs, to avoid having to memorise and quickly recall the correct positions for all those hardware knobs.

Or maybe you want to be able to change the order in which your effects are connected to each other, quickly and without messing around with patch cables. Maybe you want a more compact setup for when you go on tour. Not only will it probably be cheaper than a traditional hardware-based setup, it will also be smaller, lighter, and far more customisable. So if you normally use VST plugins in your Live layouts, you're restricted to routing things inside Bidule instead.Have you ever thought of using your computer as a live guitar FX setup? Depending on what you want to do musically, this approach can have tremendous advantages. That said, there is one big drawback to the current status of Bidule/Live: When operating as a Rewire slave, you can't use VST plugins in Live!! Dunno why that is, but from what I understand it has nothing to do with Plogue, or even with Propellerheads Rewire, but is a limitation specific to Live. However, Ableton Live can't (to my knowledge) send MIDI out, so even if Bidule were a slave you still wouldn't be able to trigger Bidule MIDI sequences from Live. If you want to turn pre-programmed MIDI sequences on and off, then you'll need to be in Bidule to do so. That's assuming you're playing your VST instruments live, though. Your MIDI controller will certainly be able to send commands to Bidule even when it is minimized and Live is the main GUI in which you're operating. If you only need to use Bidule as a host for your VST instruments while playing Live, then you really don't need to wait. CPU usage is good on my PIII 1 Ghz, but naturally, it all depends on how much you're trying to do. Rx - I can't speak for every user, but my experience with Bidule has been that's fairly solid: almost all of the crashes I have are due to 3rd party plugin issues, and the few that are due to Bidule get fixed almost as soon as I report them. Note the "s8" next to the FruityLoops module, and the "m8" next to the Live module, indicating that FL is indeed slaved to Live's master.

( Caveat: Full screenshot = BIG image, 600+ kb) Sure enough, it worked perfectly! Anyone interested (or who doesn't believe me) can find a screenshot here: Just to make sure I'm not talking out my I decided to test this with the FL and Live demos. Syncing FL is as simple as right-clicking the FruityLoops module, and telling it to sync to the Ableton Live Rewire module. Well, I can't say I have any aspirations to godhood, but I do sometimes wonder about the guys from Plogue.Īs a matter of fact, you CAN sync FruityLoops to Live inside Plogue Bidule! Just run FruityLoops as a VSTi, and use Bidule as the Rewire mixer for Live. Mark Henning wrote: if anyone gets Fruityloops running seamlessly alongside Live then you are GOD.
